John Groleau, CCPS, ChFEBC, MSFS

John is the founder of Lighthouse Financial Group, Inc. and Lighthouse College Financial Planning, Inc. For more than 20 years, John has been helping families plan, prepare and pay for their students’ college education.

As a Certified College Planning Specialist, John’s expertise is navigating the complexities of the financial aid application and award process. He works with families on financial planning strategies to minimize their out of pocket college expenses, maximize their financial aid eligibility and meet their long-term retirement needs.

At the heart of Lighthouse Financial Group and Lighthouse College Financial Planning is John’s commitment to families. Lighthouse provides the highest standards of quality through ethical behavior and professional integrity.

John and his family are longtime residents of Aurora. All four of the Groleau children graduated from West Aurora High School. John and his wife are active in the community, the schools and their church.

Dorothy LaVoy, Student Counselor

Dorothy (Dotti) is an experienced high school guidance counselor with expertise in academic planning, career development, career guidance, college planning, and the scholarship application process. Dotti was a student counselor at West Aurora High School for 19 years, where she supervised capstone programs such as West Aurora High School’s Mock Interview program and the Senior Honors Night program.

Dotti holds a Master of Science degree with a Specialization in School Counseling and Supervision from Northern Illinois University. She has been a Golden Apple nominee, a recipient of The Outstanding School Business Partnership Award through the Aurora Chamber of Commerce and, a recipient of the Waubonsee Community College Counselor of the Year Award. Dotti has been twice inducted into Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Dotti is an adjunct faculty member at Waubonsee Community College and is a member of the Illinois Association of College Admission Counselors.

Barbara Clark, Student Counselor

Barbara (Bobby) started her career as an elementary school music teacher and later became Director / Lead Teacher for an early childhood center. Bobby graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Illinois. She has continued her education at the National College of Education for her certification in Language Arts. Bobby is also employed by the West Aurora School Disctrict, #129 as a part-time middle school Instrumental Music assistant and substitute Band teacher. She also participates in homebound tutoring, ACT testing, mock interviews at the high school level, and music contests.

 



Scott Venters, Student Counselor

Scott has seven years of experience as a mathematics teacher for middle school and high school students. He spent five years working in student services at the collegiate level working to help make students' transitions to campus successful. Scott graduated with a Masters of Science Degree in College Student Affairs from Eastern Illinois University. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Millikin University. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in School Counseling. Scott is a member of the Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling, Illinois School Counselor Association, and Illinois Counseling Association.
