How do you avoid being one of these statistics? With proper college planning, parents can send their children to school and still retire and students can start and finish at the right college in four years.

Helping Families Plan and Pay for College

College Financial Planning

Lighthouse College Planning works in partnership with families to achieve the college dream. Our services provide guidance on college financing including comprehensive financial planning to reduce out of pocket expenses. We review all the financial vehicles available to fund college including and reduce the EFC, Expected Family Contribution. We also submit the FAFSA, Free report, avoiding the common mistakes most families make that cost them thousands of dollars in financial aid. We work to maximize aid thus reducing the out of pocket expenses. Common forms of aid include scholarships, grants and college loans.

College Counseling Staff

Our dedicated staff of college counselors work directly with the students in the college search and application process. The national average of college students who don’t return to college their sophomore year is over 34%. At Lighthouse, 95% of our students return to college after their freshman year. The college search starts with choosing a major, then selecting a group of colleges and universities that have excellent programs for that major. Then the counselors work with the students to select a smaller group of colleges that fit the student’s needs academically, socially and financially. Once the list is finalized, the counselors work with the student’s all the way through the application process including school visits, interviews, letters of recommendation and essays.

Financial Aid Award Review and Ongoing Support

Once the schools have been selected, applied for, the student has been admitted and the financial aid documents submitted, the colleges will send a financial aid award letter. Lighthouse College Planning takes all the awards and provides a comprehensive comparison of the awards and recommends further negotiation steps to take with the top choices. In 2011, Lighthouse College students received $2.4 million in scholarships and other free aid.

The support, training and advice that you and the staff provided have been invaluable in teaching us how to do the FAFSA forms, the college applications and all of the financial implications of tuition and scholarships – Don and Michelle F
